To start off, below is a video highlighting the general composition and design of a Formula SAE pedal box:
A pedal box is a system which is composed of an accelerator pedal and a brake pedal. Using these two pedals, the driver of the cart is then able to change the overall speed and acceleration that he/she is going.
The acceleration pedal is linked to the throttle of the car. Pressing down on this pedal then opens the throttle and lets more air go into the engine. Due to this, more fuel reacts with the air and the car moves quicker. (1)
The brake pedal works through a system which is seen below.
As can be seen, the brake pedal being pressed then presses on the labeled piston. This then pushes the fluid to the slave cylinder at the bottom. The slave cylinder then puts pressure on the wheels and slows the car down.
